This tax season presents a huge opportunity to support individuals and families in the City of Philadelphia.
Due to expansions of certain key credits, including the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, families can receive thousands of dollars. This becomes even more important as key federal benefits and supports are phasing out. Particularly, the Child Tax Credit.
The Child Tax Credit or CTC, has been around since the late 1990s and continues to provide critical support for low- and middle-income families. Historically, it has been shown to help families cover everyday expenses from buying groceries to paying rent and bills, affording childcare, and buying back-to-school clothes. Even if you have no income, you may still be eligible to receive the child tax credit for your family.
The City of Philadelphia estimates that if everyone who is eligible claims their funds, 75,000 people in Philadelphia can move out of income-based poverty this year. That includes more than 46,000 children.
In early 2021, The Promise invested in four partnerships among trusted community-based organizations to help people reach a comprehensive set of public benefits, subsidies, supports, and resources for which they are eligible. The four coalitions engaged in this work include The Collaborative to Advance Stability, The Latino Equitable Development Collective, No One Left Behind, and The South Broad Partnership.
The collaboratives are focused on:
- Providing services that stabilize families
- Strengthening collaboration and referrals across organizations
- Reaching those who haven’t been reached, but are eligible for services, and
- Building data infrastructure and capacity, so we can learn to prove, and improve what we are doing
All four of our collaboratives are offering FREE, high-quality tax services to the community this tax season. If you or someone you know has questions about their taxes, help is available. Visit our services page or connect with one of our Partner organizations below to learn more.
